The 77th Edinburgh International Film Festival
Rebooting the world’s longest running Film Festival for it’s 77th edition.
The relaunched Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) honours 70+ years of festival history, showcasing the very best talent in filmmaking in a re-energised format that is rooted in a local Scottish context whilst embracing the international diversity of creative expression.
I joined the EIFF team as Design & Display Co-ordinator. Empire Design created the logo and introduced a bold new aesthetic with a classic, retro logo. Unveiling a design that looks forward but pays homage to the Festival’s illustrious 77-year history.
I then set about creating the brand architecture and building the infrastructure for the festival and planning for the coming years.
To do this I expanded on the ‘Transporting’ Orange Empire Design had chosen for the main logo, creating a primary and secondary colour palette to help differentiate the various strands of the programme.
I invented typographic rules using Neue Haas Grotesk – a clean, confident typeface with geometric influences that harmonise with the logo's design.
I created Brand Guidelines to work across every aspect of the festival from venue dressing to marketing materials and social templates.
Working with the team at EIFF, we took over four venues in Edinburgh for this year’s Festival. The Cameo Picturehouse, Summerhall, 50 George Square and Inspace. Each venue posed a new opportunity to highlight the brand and make audiences aware of our locations within an already busy Festival period in the city.
